Compared to 80% in the rest of Europe, only 8% of homes and businesses in the UK can connect to a full fibre network. FibreNation is on a mission across the UK to connect 3 million homes and businesses, so you can enjoy the same broadband speeds as our gigabit-city, York, home to the fastest broadband speeds in the country.
FibreNation is behind the UK’s first Gigabit City in York where 44,000 homes will enjoy the benefits of full fibre. This is the biggest fibre infrastructure currently available in the UK – and our network has made York the fastest in the country. Harrogate, Knaresborough and Ripon will see over 40,000 homes and business be rolled out over the next few years.
FibreNation was launched by TalkTalk in November 2018 as a wholesale FTTP operator. It operates as a separate company. We’ve got the power to do full fibre differently. Building a network that’s fully gigabit-capable and offers simple, wholesale pricing and a legacy-free business. The ambition is to build past at least 3m homes within 10 years. Critical to the success of the business will be achieving a low-cost network build and achieving rapid customer take up with appropriate wholesale agreements in place.
About the role
To ensure we are making best use of our capital and resources, you will create and refine commercial and technical analysis used to support business cases for rolling out fibre.
You’ll carry out detailed analysis looking at competition, demographics, property types, road types, surface types, 3rd party network availability, wayleave data and using historical actual cost data and detailed design. Through this, you will be able to accurately model the premier cities and sequence of rollout in geographic locations.
You’ll report into the National Planning Manager and be responsible for initial commercial, geographical and technical analysis of prospective City build locations; reviewing as planned against as built network plans; developing models to forecast budgets to build residential, b2b or mobile networks or services within Geographic locations.
You will be responsible for extracting external and internal data from multiple sources (e.g. ONS, Ordinance Survey, Post Office, Centre for Cities, Cabinet Office Library, CP customer data) to build a substantial set of relevant data for UK together with a flexible set of tools.
You’ll work closely with the construction and build teams to align the data and analysis with the subsequent detailed planning and build processes. You’ll also work closely with the commercial and finance functions in order to assist with building the financial models and business case for each location. You may also assist with analysing post build data in order to further inform and refine our selection processes.
The successful candidate will be able to confidently manage the data sets in question and devise recommendations for further analysis, data sets and tools. The candidate will also be able to present results clearly in both graphical and written formats for presentations and reports.
You will have strong analytical skills and coverage of GIS / QGis. You will ideally have Python / Scripting experience and hold Science or Mathematics based degree.
