You know the value that high-performing DevOps implementations bring to businesses. This could be from automating the smallest of practices to large scale transformation projects with the goal of making processes faster.
As a DevOps Platform Engineer, you’ll be one of two specialists working across our digital stack, building scalable cloud solutions to solve a variety of problems.
You’ll be Azure focused and get involved in things like new sales journeys, incident management processes and wide-ranging platform related developments to name a few. You’ll also get involved in mentoring and coaching.
Sound like you? If so, we’d love to hear from you
About the role
You’ll build and maintain an Infrastructure-as-Code codebase using tools like Terraform, Puppet and Ansible.
You’ll work using Agile principles and prioritise your work in conjunction with multiple scrum masters as you’ll be working across different squads.
These squads could include Developers at all levels, Development Managers, Solution Designers from our Business Change function or working individuals across our IT Ops function.
You’ll be an advocate for architecting platforms using the latest best practices and industry standards using IaC tools in line with our security policies.
You’ll deal with incidents quickly, coming up with rapid resolutions to ensure that we’re "always on" for our customers, both internally and externally.
You’ll need to keep a track of Azure costs to make sure they are manageable and report your findings to senior management. This could include discussing the business benefits of Azure whilst being equally comfortable deep diving into platform configurations such as Application Gateway, Azure Firewall or Functions for example.
You’ll be an effective communicator who can understand the detail of technical work that is in process and also translate the message to your squad or senior stakeholders.
Given the nature of the role, previous experience in a DevOps or platform engineering role is essential. You’ll have worked in a cloud-based role in a similar setting, ideally with Azure. The majority of our development work is carried out using .Net/.Net Core so it would also be highly beneficial to have experience with Microsoft stack.
You’ll have experience using scripting tools (ideally Terraform) or you may have used Bash or PowerShell. You’ll also have experience of container-orchestration tools such as Kubernetes.
You’ll ideally have an understanding of SQL and proven experience working in Agile development environments. This will have included implementing DevOps best practices and methodologies. You’ll also have experience of working with ARM Templates, JSON or YAML.
It would also be beneficial to have prior knowledge of networking, including TCP/IP, DNS, BGP & VPNs but this is not essential. You might also have experience working with development pipelines using tools such as Azure DevOps, Sonarqube, NPM or Helm.
