Senior Software Engineer

Salford Quays, Manchester

As a Senior Developer in our online team, you will work within one of our agile squads to deliver against feature roadmaps and project plans.  As a senior member of the team you will be expected to work closely with the principal developers as well as design, UX and product owners to design, develop, implement and support solutions that are robust, scalable and built for the future, employing best practice. 

You will work closely with the Principal Developers and your peer group across squads to define what good looks like alongside best practice and ensure that the team you work with are adhering to this, you should lead by example in this space.

It is anticipated that you will be a full stack engineer, familiar with both front and back end technologies and able to coach and mentor developers working in both disciplines, and be skilled in both in best practice as well as offering guidance and ideas when team members ask

You will have a keen interest in cloud computing, CI/CD as well as agile ways of working and be a key contributor to our continuous improvement drive

Key Skillsets

Technical - Must Have:

  •  .Net Core & .Net C#, Angular 9, (PHP, Java are nice to have) 
  • Experience of building/implementing logging tools
  • Knowledge and experience of building units tests and automated tests
  • Jira/ADO TFS or similar ticket management system
  • Understanding of key design patters, OOD, Data structures
  • Knowledge of CD/CI pipelines and management of delivery
  • Micro service design
  • Knowledge of containerisation and orchestration, with experience of using tools associated with this
  • Strong understanding of agile ways of working with experience working in an agile environment

Technical - Nice to Have

  • Cloud computing (AWS/Azure), setting up services, authentication, delivery, scaling and network considerations
  • Docker
  • Kubernetes

Other Skills required

  • Experience of mentoring and coaching of software engineers
  • Relationship building – able to build strong relationships with team members of all disciplines, as well as key stakeholders, product owners, business analysts, UX designers and the solution designers
  • Interest in system design as you will be working closely with the solution design team and principal developers in this area
  • Working in, and leading by example in best practices for the full software development lifecycle (including coding standards, code reviews, source control management, build processes, testing and operations)
  • Operational support, log analysis and diagnosing root cause of live issues on production
  • Key contributor to the continuous improvement cycle
  • Be an advocate of agile ways of working and lead by example
  • Pragmatic thinker – able to weigh up the business need vs the technical excellence/debt being built
  • Contribute in key ceremonies and actively encourage other team members to do so
  • Recruitment of other developers in conjunction with the principals and development managers
  • Telco experience (nice to have)
