Job Title: Lead Developer

Why is this role important?

A Lead Developer works on the .NET/SQL Server projects which are part of TalkTalk’s OSS application estate. The responsibility of a Lead Developer is to build and integrate new functionality using their technical and analytical skills, that meet customers’ requirements and conform to the solution & systems designs.

As well as this, a core responsibility of the Lead Developer is to turn high-level solution designs and the associated set of user stories into low level artefacts to be used by developers and testers to ensure that our software systems meet the customers’ requirements.

As well as providing subject matter expertise on the platform, a Lead Developer works closely with the other members of the Delivery team supporting technical leadership within the department. A Lead Developer provides operational support to the technology operations teams to ensure the OSS systems are operationally available and stable.

As a part of our team, you will be helping us to drive forwards best practice adoption and creation in our software architecture and coding patterns and principles and adding to our constant drive to be the best at what we do.

The Lead Developer will be a true Technical Lead within our department, mentor, guide, coach and support everyone around you to ensure we hit our deadlines, develop our people and succeed as a team. Take ownership of issues and see them through to resolution.

To be successful in the role you must have:

Strong OOP experience

.NET and C# programming experience

Experience of RDBMS, including SQL for database interrogation

Experienced in test automation, such as unit testing and TDD

Experience in using version control systems

Experience of Waterfall / Agile Delivery models

Experience of API development e.g. SOAP, REST

It would also be great to have:

Understanding of Telecoms products and services

Understanding of telecoms networks and activation understanding of the full stack.

Understanding of how networks, servers, databases, and infrastructure

Know basic patterns such as repository, dependency injection/inversion, etc.

Knowledge of object oriented programming.

About OSS Delivery

Working in OSS Delivery you will be at the epicentre of our
Technology function delivering key projects for our Consumer and Business
customers to launch new products and improve customer experience. The systems
we are responsible for enable us to sell, bill and assure the smooth running of
customers service 24 hours a day 365 days of the year. Key projects in flight
right now include improving our customer Repair journeys as well as launching
the next generation of connectivity for our consumer (Fibre For Everyone) and
Business (IPVPN) customers.

The OSS systems estate is truly gargantuan and we have a large and
diverse team of awesome people making the magic happen. We work with a wide
variety of different technologies ranging from a variety of object oriented
programming languages (including C#, Java, C++) through to cutting edge COTS
and CRM systems including Pega and Salesforce. We are constantly looking to
improve and utilise the latest features in each technology and over the last 2
years have invested heavily in drawing down on technical debt with great
success and we will continue to give our amazing team the opportunity, support
and freedom to own and love all of our systems.

be and ensure our code is delivered and tested on time and to the highest
