What is your current role in TalkTalk & what does it involve?
My current role is Head of IT Asset Management, reporting to the Director of Colleague Systems. My job involves helping the business manage all their IT assets, both hardware and software, by making sure we fully utilise what we have, reducing cost and risk from audit exposure.
Working in this role requires a lot of analytical and problem-solving skills, great stakeholder management as well as the patience of a saint!
Tell us about your career journey at TalkTalk.
As an ambitious mum of 4 (and a great big Labrador dog) I have always loved a challenge and I’ve had an amazing career through TalkTalk Technology. Tech has always played a big part in all my previous roles. I have an interest, I like to learn, but I don’t come from a traditional technology background. I’ve been with TalkTalk for 6 years now and it still feels like yesterday. I was wowed by all the clever people I got to meet through my interview and never imagined I’d have a chance to understand some of what they knew. However, I must have had the X factor as I was offered the role same day!
Starting as a Trials Manager I had the opportunity to work on the team that launched TV. Prior to my appointment the focus wasn’t on truly listening to customers and understanding their end to end experience. The success of the project saw the business invest in this area and I was appointed to lead it. The Technology Introduction function was created to ensure all our products were fit for purpose for our customers. We built a network of triallist and a thorough test programme. Now, all new customer-facing products go through this team prior to launch.
I was then approached to move into Colleague Systems as the Technology Lead for the Soapworks, TalkTalk’s Northern office. This was a huge leap of faith by the leadership team. In all honesty, I didn’t necessarily have the right skills on paper fir the role. It was my reputation of getting a job done that has enabled me to be successful in this role. What a project it was. I learnt something new every day, from cabling & CCTV to building a network and virtual cell Wi-Fi. As a bonus I had the opportunity to work with some wonderful people from across the whole business.
Tell us a little bit about your team
Colleague Systems is the evolution of your traditional IT team, with a real focus on colleague experience. Yes there are occasions where you will be asked to turn it on and off again 😊, but we are focusing on the experience being more than just a ticket. Moving to self-serve with a focus on “walk in and work”.
We are constantly looking at how we can make it easier for colleagues to their jobs and we’ve introduced some really cool stuff over the past 12-18 months including Office 365 & Soft phone.
It’s a great team to cut your teeth in as it gives you full exposure across the business. You can be the first line colleague supporting, or do more back office data processing. No two days are the same. We learn together, we laugh together but ultimately, we get the job done together.

How would you describe the TalkTalk culture?
Just to clear up a myth, working in technology isn’t just about being stuck behind a computer. Yes, we have some truly amazing colleagues who can create wonders with a laptop, but there are many other roles that enable the cogs to turn. TalkTalk have been working extremely hard combining these two worlds. This has led to increased collaboration and a much more creative, innovative environment.
TalkTalk Technology offers variety and flexibility which is great for the fast-paced industry that we operate in. I really love and appreciate the great people and team spirit that you can visibly see and feel as you walk around the office. They really are our greatest asset!
I may be biased but working in the Soapworks at Salford Quays offers an amazing office experience. The space has been carefully created to encourage colleagues to collaborate across both fixed desk areas and more flexible spaces. We have a scentastic wall of soap and an amazing 4th floor canteen with great views across Manchester. What more could you ask for?
The benefits offered to all staff are fantastic. From private health care, ride to work scheme, apple tech and a wine club (my favourites!). There is something for everyone.
